Expectations Of Compassion

Updated: Oct 14, 2024

Compassion. It's a word we hear often, but what does it truly mean in our walk with God?

Sometimes I wrestle with the concept of compassion. As someone who thrives on action, I often find myself eager to put words into deeds. But this tendency can lead to frustration when others don't reciprocate in the same way.

I've had to learn to be more realistic with my expectations, realizing that not everyone approaches compassion as I do. It's a humbling journey, one that requires patience and understanding - qualities I'm still working on!

Through the losses and trials in my life, I've come to reevaluate my relationships. My circle has grown smaller, but also stronger. I've discovered "my people" - those who truly embody the compassion of Christ.

Hebrews 13:2 reminds us, "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” What an incredible thought! God works in mysterious ways, often using unexpected individuals to show His love and compassion.

In my darkest moments, when I felt most alone, God has always provided. Sometimes through close friends, sometimes through strangers who I believe may have been angels in disguise. The beauty of being part of the body of Christ is that we're never truly alone. God is always with us.

So today, I want to encourage you: Don't lose heart when compassion seems scarce. Remember that God is always there, working through His people…whether that’s your best friend, a fellow believer, or even a heavenly messenger. We are here for each other, united in Christ's love.

Let's strive to show the same compassion to others that Christ has shown us, trusting that God will provide the strength and guidance we need. In doing so, we become living testimonies of His endless love and grace.
